{"id":174,"date":"2021-06-06T19:41:48","date_gmt":"2021-06-06T19:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imqra.com\/?p=174"},"modified":"2021-06-06T20:27:27","modified_gmt":"2021-06-06T20:27:27","slug":"which-professional-advice-should-we-follow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imqra.com\/?p=174","title":{"rendered":"Which professional advice should we follow?"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>\n<p><em>\u201cMaking our buildings safe<\/em>\u201d states&nbsp;<em>\u201cDecisions are only made on qualified professional advice\u201d<\/em> with similar views expressed on the MQ forum.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, this raises the question as to which set of professionals one takes advice from and how they are commissioned and briefed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst professionals have an important contribution to decisions, their opinions need considering alongside their profession&#8217;s and commercial interests as well as the perspectives that other professions bring.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stepping back and looking at the broader perspective its seems likely that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>professionals signed-off the cladding that was used on Grenfell Towers for general building use<\/li><li>professionals signed-off this cladding specifically for use in Grenfell Towers<\/li><li>professionals are now issuing EWS1s with increasing evidence emerging concerning highly variable judgements<\/li><li>professionals gathered and published the national fire statistics.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of these it appears it is the professionals working on national fire data which involve least \u201cprofessional&#8221; judgement as it is usually pretty clear if someone has died at home, if it was fire related and what type of dwelling it occurred in.&nbsp;&nbsp;See the blog on this site <a href=\"https:\/\/imqra.com\/?p=90\">\u201cShould we be concerned about fire risks at MQ?\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;which draws on this data and provides useful context to the other sets of professionals directly involved in safety.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the groups of professionals involved in the present EWS1 situation an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/ews1-mess-means-we-dont-know-if-our-homes-are-safe-j5d9vqd3h\">article by Martina Lees in the Sunday Times on 9\/5\/21<\/a> indicates that particular caution needs exercising in relation to the professionals assessing EWS1s.&nbsp;&nbsp;Examples she gives of changes in EWS1 ratings as repeat surveys were commissioned are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Waterside Park, East LND&nbsp;<\/strong>got an A1 rating in early 2020, then B1 in Sept 2020 which was then changed on a third survey in April 2021 to a B2.&nbsp;&nbsp;Likewise, with&nbsp;<strong>Renaissance, Lewisham<\/strong> with their final B2 rating given a couple of months earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>St Andrews, Bromley-by-Bow&nbsp;<\/strong>was initially given a B1 which then changed to B2 by the next group of professionals, while at&nbsp;<strong>Blue Buildings, Portsmouth&nbsp;<\/strong>the initial B2 rating changed to B1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From her article it appears that one factor which leads to ratings changing is who commissions the work.&nbsp;This further adds to the questions of many MQ leaseholders as to why we commissioned more work from surveyors on the R&amp;R panel with the obvious interest that R&amp;R have in such work proceeding.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If you are concerned about issues raised in this item and want to try to change things, or wish to express your support to those organising the site then contact<\/em>: <a>admin@imqra.com<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Likewise if there are issues you would like to raise.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: views in this blog and on this site are the honest opinion of the author &amp; are made available in the interest of residents at MQ.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>This further adds to the questions of many MQ leaseholders as to why we commissioned more work from surveyors on the R&amp;R panel with the obvious interest that R&amp;R have in such work proceeding. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7,16],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-174","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ews1","category-mq-a-g","entry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
