“The cheque is in the post” it never arrives but it shuts you up and shuts down the questions, at least for a while.
Its an old trick; say you will deliver, even when you have no intention of doing so. Let us hope that this is not what is happening with the MQ AGMs but, maybe, if, for whatever reason, you want to sign contracts for EWS1 remediation it is best to do so before an AGM, just in case members are so outraged and vote the directors off the board. Maybe best to string them along, just in case the unthinkable happens.
So here is the sequence at MQ with the AGM announcements…
MQA-G board, 23 September 2020 “Accounts will be sent with a statement from each board chair and advising that AGMs are postponed indefinitely due to Covid.”
Stephen Lang, 24 Jan 2021 “…there will be an AGM…we do not have the final version of the accounts…once we have these we will organise some kind of AGM, Zoom or Teams is the obvious option.” ( AGM?MQ Forum in response to posts asking what is happening with the AGM).
MQA-G Chairman’s statement, March 2021 “…We, like some of you, want an AGM soonest, and this will be arranged as soon as possible.” (MQA-G Chairman’s statement on MQ forum documents).
MQA-G and MQRA boards of directors minutes, 17 March 2021 “2019/20 accounts were unanimously approved.
- “ a. Get accounts for all companies out by end of March 2021”
- d. Plan for AGMs to be held last 2 weeks of April”.
25 March 2021 Accounts signed by the auditors and R&R.
Richard Heaton, 26 April 2021 “When the accounts are finalised the AGM will be announced. I hope we will have an update this week.” (AGM Request, MQ Forum – posted before leaseholders knew the accounts had been approved)
So four weeks after the accounts have been approved the chair of MQRA posts that when the accounts are finalised the AGM will be announced and four weeks later still or eight weeks after the accounts are finalised an AGM still hasn’t been announced…..
…is the cheque still in the post?
